Artek A811 Floor Lamp
A811 Floor Lamp by Artek also known as "Snow Bell" has a 14" painted matte white steel shade that is suspended from a sturdy metal stand. The base and stem are partially covered in black leather and beautifully detailed with brass accents. The Artek A811 Floor Lamp was designed by Alvar Aalto: "Floor lamp A811 was designed to supplement the Artek product range. The basic shape of the shade is similar to that of the lamp designed for the corridors of the head office building of the National Pensions Institute"
About Artek and Alvar Aalto
Artek was founded in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. The business strategy of the company was “to sell furniture and to promote a modern culture of living by exhibitions and other educational means”. The founders of Artek advocated a new kind of environment for everyday life. They believed in a grand synthesis of the arts and wanted to make a difference in architecture and design as well as in town planning.
