Artek Chair 69
The Chair 69 by Artek as a minimalist chair for the dining table with typical L-legs, giving it the characteristic silhouette and making it possible to fix the frame directly at the seat. The Artek Chair 69 was designed by Alvar Aalto: "The Chair 69 was initially designed like the Stool 60 and other famous furniture in Aalto collection, for the library in Wyborg. It soon started its successful adventure all around the world starting there, entering also private homes delighting with its clear and soft shape."
Artek was founded in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. The business strategy of the company was “to sell furniture and to promote a modern culture of living by exhibitions and other educational means”. The founders of Artek advocated a new kind of environment for everyday life. They believed in a grand synthesis of the arts and wanted to make a difference in architecture and design as well as in town planning.
